Note. This record was copied by Harriet Isabel Ogburn Grout, the daughter of
John Williams Ogburn, from the old family Bible owned by her father.
The same record was also given to me (Elsie and Carl Ogburn) by
H. Kapp Ogburn of Winston-Salem N.C. whose great-grandfather was James Edward,
a brother of John Williams Ogburn. Kapp gave me the name of Anna Gettina as the
fifth child's namewhile Harret Grour had it Angelina. Also Mathew Louis' wife
was given as Annie Huckabee by one and as Huckaberry by the other. Other than
these two discrepancies, the records were the same.
Charles Benjamin Ogburn, John Williams Ogburn, his brother, and Isaac shouse
started to California from North Carolina on June 4, 1852. John Williams Ogburn
settled near Inwood Shasta Co., Calif. and married Emma Ceceelia Jones at the old
Sheridan Ranch on Nov.10, 1856. The old Ogburn home burned downed a few years
ago. The Ogburn-Inwood Cemetary ground was part of the Ogburn Ranch which
Grandfather Ogburn set aside for his family and neighbors and all of his children
except one daughter, Emma Mc Murry who survives, are buried there.
